Yakitori Chicken


From what I understand from the internet, yakitori is kind of street food in Japan.  It is, however, really good. This recipe is not, strictly speaking, culturally accurate, but I think it's quite good.


1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/3 cup sake 1/3 cup pineapple juice 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1/8 teaspoon ginger 1/8 teaspoon garlic 1/8 teaspoon wasabi powder



Put the chicken on the grill over a low flame

Combine the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over high heat; stir well and bring to a boil

Boil for 3 minutes, then reduce to a simmer for 5 to thicken, stirring constantly

Brush sauce on the chicken and flip; brush the now-up side; let cook for 5 minutes and repeat, reducing time on each side to 2 minutes

Pour remaining sauce into small dipping dish(es)

Remove chicken from heat and cut into bite-sized pieces

Serve with desired sides (leftover lo mien and sugar snap peas recommended)
